We have been working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support since 2012 to help people living with cancer and their carers, and funding for our service is now coming to a close.
We have always understood that Macmillan could not fund the service indefinitely and are truly grateful for the support that we have received for 14 years to provide thousands of people with practical help, emotional support, and companionship when it has been needed most.
We understand this news may feel disappointing and we want to take a moment to reflect on what this service has meant. We are incredibly grateful to Macmillan for their funding, trust, and continued commitment to people affected by cancer. We are equally thankful to our volunteers, partners, and everyone who has been part of this journey - their kindness and dedication have made a real and lasting difference.
We would also like to thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey. We are grateful for the trust you have placed in us.
Our service has had a positive and lasting impact on thousands of lives and we are committed to exploring new and sustainable ways to continue supporting people in the future, building on everything we’ve learned together.
We understand how important this support can be, and we will review all referrals on a case-by-case basis. If we haven’t yet been able to match you with a volunteer, it may be due to limited availability in your area. If so, we will contact you and make sure you have information about other services that may be able to help.
Over the coming weeks, we will also be reviewing our waiting list carefully to ensure everyone is guided towards appropriate support.
If you are currently receiving support, we will be in touch with you directly to talk through what happens next. If your volunteer has already completed 12 weeks of support, this will come to an end.
If you are currently partway through your 12-week support, we will be in touch to gently talk through what other support options may be available to you.
We know the relationships built through this service can be very meaningful. In some cases, volunteers may choose to stay in touch as a friend, but please note this would be outside of the service and no longer covered by our insurance.
We will continue supporting transport to treatment until Friday 31st July. If your treatment continues beyond this date, we will work closely with hospital teams to help you find alternative transport options, including local charities that provide similar support.
Yes, there are still ways to access support.
