Recharge in Nature: A Wellbeing Day for Carers at RSPB Dungeness

Carers from across Kent enjoyed a relaxing morning at RSPB Dungeness with nature, workshops, and time to unwind.

On Monday 6 October 2025, we held our second Carers Wellbeing event in partnership with RSPB Dungeness, and it was a wonderful success. Carers and the people they care for came from all over Kent to enjoy a peaceful morning at this stunning nature reserve.

RSPB Dungeness is a truly special place, famous for its unique landscapes and incredible bird life. Visiting during the autumn migration season made it even more special, with opportunities to spot birds moving through this remarkable habitat. Guests enjoyed a guided nature walk led by an expert RSPB volunteer, a creative ceramic bird feeder workshop run by Gemma Gottelier, and a relaxed lunch while soaking in the calm surroundings.

Events like this are so important for carers. Taking time out to slow down, breathe, and enjoy nature isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. We know how demanding caring can be, and these experiences provide a rare chance to relax and recharge. Our staff and care support workers were on hand throughout the day to help with any needs, offering support or looking after people they care for so everyone could enjoy the day fully.

Crossroads Care Kent is committed to providing more experiences outside the home for carers and those they care for. Last month, we were at the beautiful Godinton House Gardens, and just last week, we welcomed the Dementia Experience Bus outside our Wateringbury office. We aim to keep creating days like these that allow carers to step away from their routines and enjoy something special.

A huge thank you to the RSPB Dungeness team, to Orla for leading the project in Kent, and to Gemma for running such a fantastic workshop.
